I believe Samuel is the Samuel R. Maltbie who mar. Sept. 1, 1814, Phebe BARTHOLOMEW, b. Dec. 3, 1795. His brother, Zacheus Maltbie, bp. 1785, Norfolk, was at one time of Evan, N.Y., and Samuel resided at North Evans, N.Y. (As Samuel's mother was Jerusha Rose, the "R" in his middle name might be for Rose.)
Note. I do not feel certain the wife of Samuel Maltby was Phebe Bartholomew.
The following is from "The New York Evangelist, Feb. b, 1868." "Maltby, at the residence of her brother, J.H.Rowe, in Hillsdale, Mich., Jan. 15, 1868, Mrs. Laura, in the 75th year of her age" (Hence b. 1794). "Born in Connecticut in 1790, she went at the age of 10 "to Central, New York; at the age of 17, married Samuel Maltby, he died in 4 years, also her first born child, a son." (It is a long article but I have never seen it).
